SWIMMING
CAREER
(1977
to 1993)
(2000 till present)
|
|
15 Years
1977 to 1993 - 15 years of competitive swimming.
|
|
Age 5
Learned to swim from his father at the age of 5.
|
|
Father
- A Role Model
His
father, an accomplished sixth-dan judoka and an Olympian at the 1964
Tokyo Games, was instrumental to the foundation of Peng Siong's
successful swimming career. He started Peng Siong on a strict weight
training routine at a young age when most coaches would consider it
damaging to the athlete. Peng Siong has great respect for his father as a
role model - a leader, a disciplinarian and a motivator.
|
|
ACS
Shaw Pool
At the Anglo-Chinese School Shaw Pool, Peng Siong is blessed with two
dedicated ACS academic teachers cum swim coaches: Mr. Wee Moh Nam and Mr.
Lenn Wei Ling. While studying in Anderson Secondary School, he was
readily accepted into the ACS strong swimming family.
|
|

meet, Peng Siong delighted the swimming fraternity by being the only
non-American swimmer to qualify for the prestigious 50m Freestyle sprint
final.
|
|
Full
Athletic Scholarship
After a surreal performance in Hawaii, he received a full athletic
scholarship from the University of Houston to pursue his academic and
swimming career.
|
|
Phil
Hansel
Under the attentive guidance of Head swim coach Phil Hansel (1980 to
1986), Peng Siong continued his swimming and academic pursuit. One of
Phil's greatest coaching moment was when Peng Siong won the first NCAA
men's title for the University of Houston.
|
|
